Ungracious Names

There was a discussion at work. It started something like this:

- Did you hear that Hitler finally got his birthday cake?

The following deafening silence of course suggested that No, we did not hear that Hitler finally got his birthday cake…?

Hesitantly my co-worker starts to explain her evidently unexpected coffee break topic.

Still in great doubt I google the unlikely: “hitler birthday cake”. And on youtube. And then there was no stopping the consequent discussion of ungracious naming of children after that.

Himmler (8 hits). Göring (3 hits). Eva Braun (8 hits).

And then of course the classic. Ann Al (for non Swedish speakers: pronounced like the Swedish equivalent of anal). But surprisingly only one hit, Anne Ahl. Hora (whore) (5 hits). Dummann (1 hit).

Still. There are so many great names too. My favorite are soldiers names here in Sweden. I don’t know if other countries have this but I love them and lots of people carry them as surnames: Snygg (Handsome). Flitig (Diligent). Stark (Strong). Modig (Brave). Villig (Prepared) and so many more.
