Fair (Fare) Booking
If you’re annoyed with airline companies stalling to show you the total fare until the last minute on your online booking this might cheer you up.
Traditionally low-fare airlines like RyanAir have displayed next-to-nothing tickets (sometimes from 1 SEK / 17 cent / .11 EUR) in their ads and in very fine print claimed that tax and service fees are NOT included. We learned this pretty fast.
Another trick to have us buy more is to check boxes (i.e. for additional insurance) that normally should be unchecked as they are optional. These elements of irritation can now be eliminated as the EU-parliament has voted for a proposition saying the total, including ALL fees, should be presented immediately upon booking. Also, all optional choices must be active and not pre-checked. All EU members must comply from day one and the regulation is expected to be effective from January 2009.
